Understanding - and questioning - the role of schools in building values in children and adolescents is not a recent conversation. Although it has existed since the creation of this form of teaching and learning, from time to time it resurfaces with greater force, especially in times of great changes in society .
“Students, parents, teachers and school administrators have an interest and gain from this discussion. Schools are not limited to providing education, but rather working on the development and autonomy of students in a broader way,” says Professor José Cláudio Securato, PhD, founder and CEO of LIT.
He accompanied Basic Education experts Paulo de colombia whatsapp data Camargo (consultant in innovation and educational management, journalist and creator of Projeto Devir) and José Ernesto Bologna (psychologist, writer and consultant for companies and schools, co-creator of Projeto Devir and founder of Ehos DHO) in the webinar The school in the construction of values: 6 recommendations for teachers and parents , when the topic was discussed and tips were listed for the main stakeholders in the discussion.
“This is not an easy task,” adds Paulo. “Our upbringing internalized the idea that values come through words and not through actions, and from a school that preached duties, hierarchies, and obedience,” he highlights, remembering that today the disruption lies in building cooperative human beings who learn to respect rules through coexistence.
The importance of constructive autonomy
Psychologist José Ernesto Bologna adds to the discussion a deeper analysis of what autonomy is that promotes positive changes in society. “We admire those who can change the world and its perceptions, whether in cultural, political or other contexts. However, to achieve this ability, this person needed constructive autonomy, in which the importance of the rules of heteronomy [ submission of the individual to the will of third parties or the collective ] is understood, but also includes the ability to carry out creative transgressions”, he says, adding that autonomy cannot be seen only as something negative or individualistic.
