RBC has found out that the government will allocate an additional 7 billion rubles to the Internet Development Institute (IDI) by the end of the year for the production of "state content" in RuNet. The information about the budget increase and its goals was confirmed to RBC by IID CEO Anton Klyuchkin.
The funds will be used "for the production of state content, including that aimed at forming civil identity and spiritual and moral values among young people." Earlier, 3 billion rubles were allocated for these purposes in the federal budget. Additional funds are intended to support at least 200 Internet projects - they must be implemented by December 31 of this year.
Some media industry representatives doubt the government's decision to allocate additional funds. Kirill Tanaev, Director of the Institute of Modern Media, believes that the government is pursuing a political goal in supporting the projects of the Institute for Internet Development. Anton Kalinkin, Founder of the Association of Web Content Producers and founder of the Chill web cinema, notes that the industry needs such support, but doubts that young creative groups will be able to take advantage of it. On the contrary, Igor Tolstunov, CEO of the Profit film studio, says that any assistance and additional funds for content producers, holdings, and producers will be beneficial now. In his opinion, this will help to survive the market decline due to the coronavirus pandemic,
