This is just the first step, but the system of asking questions is applicable to the entire process. A good coach knows when to ask each question and how to formulate each question so that the coachee is forced to reflect on his or her situation from different points of view.

To facilitate communication, the coach must also adopt the coachee's language, use the same expressions and review what has been said previously so that the coachee is forced to reflect on what he or she says.

In the end, the coachee will find a perspective in which he sees no insurmountable obstacles between him and his goal. This idea can be made clearer with the following foundations.

Often the coachee is convinced of something. During the conversation, the coach should observe and note the coachee's convictions, but should not judge them or act on them. Once the coachee has managed to express an objective, the coach can go on to inquire about the convictions that prevent him from achieving it.

Following the principles discussed above, the coach asks questions and repeats the convictions expressed by the coachee. He will rarely offer an opinion and if he does, he will make it clear that it is only an observation on what the coachee has said before.

In this way, the coachee is forced to cyprus phone data justify his conviction, and therefore to analyse it and question it. After asking the right questions, the coachee will be able to discover whether or not this conviction helps him to achieve his objective. Consequently, if he really wants to achieve his objective, the coachee himself will decide to abandon the convictions that are limiting him.

4th Coaching is conceived with a view to the future and not to the past.
Its foundations are different from those of therapy. It is based on the premise that people are complete and only need a change of perspective to overcome their problems.

The coach does not inquire into the origins of negative beliefs, does not ask “why do you believe that?” or “how did you come to that conclusion?” He never openly opposes the coachee.

This is a limitation for the whole process if the coachee suffers from a serious or chronic underlying problem. In these cases the coach must be able to recognise this and refer the coachee to a specialist. The aim is not to treat disorders, but rather to help people reach their potential.
