Google is not going to close Gmail this year
For a few days now, a hoax has been circulating on the Internet mentioning that the most famous email platform was going to close this year, but once again, X's Community Notes and countering information have saved us from believing one of the many fake news circulating on the Internet.
Some Hacker News users shared the email sent by the algeria number data organization: “ We are writing to inform you that Gmail Basic HTML view for desktop web and mobile web will be disabled starting in early January 2024. Gmail Basic HTML views are older versions of Gmail that were superseded by their modern successors over 10 years ago and do not include all of Gmail’s features.”
Missing features included chat, auto-correct, search filters, keyboard shortcuts, and a few other features. This made the user experience more complicated and unintuitive, which is why they decided to close Gmail's basic HTML view.
It seems that the path is heading towards putting more and more focus on artificial intelligence, as last month they launched Duet AI, to help users write emails. So rest assured, you can still continue using Gmail's features to send your emails for some time to come.
