DISC is a personality assessment model that classifies personalities into four main traits based on emotion and behavior: Dominance , Influence , Attitude , and Conscientiousness .
Psychologist William Moulton Marston introduced DISC theory in his 1928 book, The Emotions of Normal People.

Although Marston's ideas did not initially include an assessment tool, industrial psychologist Walter Clarke developed the first DISC assessment for use in the workplace in the 1950s.
Over time, this initial tool evolved into the DISC versions we know today, which are primarily used in business, education, and workplace settings.
**William Marston was also responsible for developing a prototype of the polygraph with his wife, Elizabeth. This prototype, which detected deception based on changes in a person's blood pressure, laid the groundwork for the modern polygraph.
