The US was soon joined by the European Commission . Citing cybersecurity concerns, in February 2023 the agency banned the installation of the app on official or personal devices if they were used by employees for professional purposes.

Other countries where TikTok has been banned or restricted for fear that it could be used for censorship, political propaganda or to collect user information include Great Britain, Denmark, Canada and New Zealand. In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, the app has already been banned for at least three years.
