What qualities should a good accountant have?:

Currently, it is estimated that there are more than 2,500 people in Spain who have been accredited by the Register of Accounting Experts (REC). To find out its main characteristics, we have spoken with two professionals who have been practicing this profession for several years and who, as administrators, must plan the activities of an accounting department.

It is essential to have knowledge of accounting and tax regulations. To this we must add work, seriousness, rigor and constant updating in these matters. To be properly informed, I recommend AECA (I am a full member) and participating in professional discussion groups on Linkedin. All this must be accompanied by knowledge of the business cycle and its management and administration, as this will be the ideal way to correctly interpret, identify and record in accounting the economic event that originates it and its accrual.

In Spain, it seems that the value of the term accounting is slowly being recognized as it is in the countries around us. The importance of the information that accounting provides is being considered both internally, for decision-making in the company, and at the level of third parties (suppliers, creditors, clients, financial cambodia phone data intermediaries, etc.) for the purposes of risk assessment. In our country, credit decision-making is still based almost exclusively on the analysis of payment behavior (RAI, ASNEF, etc.), except in the case where the accounts are subject to an external audit report and even then with many reservations.

A good accountant must be able to manage the accounting plan, know how to interpret the financial statements, and offer a true picture of the assets and financial situation of a company. It is also very important to be constantly updated regarding accounting and tax regulations. In addition, it is key to be organized and perseverant, keep the accounting up to date and have good communication with the other departments (mainly management and human resources).

In my experience, our work is not valued enough because it is a fixed cost that does not generate income, but accounting work is essential for an organization to obtain information about its activity and meet the company's objectives. Being a good accountant means having good company management and in the long term it generates results.
