of quotes from the saints such as above. I don't think there is a saint in the history of the Church who has not had some form of devotion to Our Lady. This is enough to suffice for the present article.

Sometimes in may appear to others that we Catholics exaggerate our devotion to Mary. Some weak Catholics, including clergy, may object to the many devotions we have in her honor. After all, has not our Savior taught that salvation is achieved by the observance of the commandments, the practice of penance, of prayer, etc.? Can or does devotion to Mary replace these means indicated by Christ Himself?

Let's be clear about this. No Catholic doctrine has ever pretended that devotion to buy phone number list Mary replaces these essential means of salvation. It does not replace them - period. Devotion to Mary helps us to use the Church's tools of salvation better: better to observe the commandments, better to do penance, to pray better and to love God more deeply (see Vatican II Lumen Gentium Chapter VIII). We must practice devotion to Mary with perseverance. It is not enough for a sinner to say a few Hail Mary's to be sure of his eternal salvation; there must be constant devotion, a willingness to try to do better everyday, to avoid occasions of sin and to love our neighbor in Christ.

The problem of doing only enough to be saved worries the sinner. The true Catholic, faithful to his obligations, strives as best He can for the perfection of his state in life. St. Louis de Montfort once said, "The shortest, the surest, the easiest, the most perfect way to arrive at this ideal is devotion to Mary."
